PIROTECNIA / MUTE FIRE

On March 6, 1906, four men were executed for the attempted murder of the Colombian president, Rafael Reyes. The photographic representation of the event is thought of as the first Colombian film. A director is making a film about the subject when suddenly his mother becomes mute. This crisis forces him to stop his project and register his mother's disease. He digs into his family's past and finds an old video of a children's play in which he acted, pretending to be a fake captured guerrilla fighter. This discovery makes him turn to his original movie to find the relationship that lies between tragic recent events of Colombian history - the falsos positivos, murdered youths disguised as guerrillas by the army to simulate military success - and the origins of cinema in Colombia.
